Maurice has been involved in athletics and particularly running for over 30 years. Maurice is a member of Mullingar Harriers and has a number of impressive achievements under his belt. In 2012 he finished 2nd in the Longford Ultra Marathon (63k!!!) in an incredible time of 4hours 29mins. In 2014 Maurice ran a brilliant race in the Rotterdam Marathon and finished with an equally brilliant time of 2hrs 37mins – These are times that a lot of us can only dream about, but it gives an idea of the calibre of Maurice’s abilities.
Maurice also has a degree in Sports Science and a Higher Diploma in Education. He has been coaching Strength & Conditioning classes for the past 5 years, and coaching Running Groups for beginners and improvers since 2013 under the banner of Maurice Looby Fitness. In addition to this he is the fitness coach for the very successful Raharney Senior Hurling Team since 2012, and Killucan Senior Footballers from 2012 – 2014.
Maurice currently coaches Adult Running Groups in Rathwire every Wednesday at 7pm; and Mullingar every Tuesday at 7pm. These groups cater for beginners to the more experienced runner. He also holds strength & conditioning exercise classes 4 times a week in Raharney and Rathwire. (See Maurice Looby Fitness FB for more info).
