Thank you for entering the 2024 AON Mullingar Half Marathon! We hope that you’re training has gone to plan and that you’re looking forward to the day. A few things to take note of before you toe the start line:

Race Numbers: All race numbers have been posted*, you should receive them today or tomorrow at latest. If for some reason you have not received your number, don’t panic, just come to the Race HQ on Pearse Street, Mullingar (aka the ‘old Dunnes’ / Guinness Storehouse (near the starting line) Eircode N91 Y248) on the morning of the race from 8am to9:30am. *Race numbers were not posted to overseas participants – if anyone is travelling from outside of Ireland, please come to the Race HQ to pick up your number on Sunday morning.

Further information on numbers will be on the email sent today by MyRunResults.

Car Parking: The main car park for the event is at Blackhall Car Park, Mullingar (google map: https://rb.gy/gsi68r)

Car parking will be free on the day. Please ensure you use public car parks and do not park on the main streets as roads will be closed for the St Patrick's Day parade at 10am (and no cars will be allowed exit until the parade is over!).

Toilets: Portaloos will be available in the Town Park and on two locations on the course. (see below)

Bag Drop: Unfortunately we cannot provide a bag drop facility this year.

Safety Briefing: A safety briefing will take place at the start line area at 9:50am. It is important that this briefing is attended.

Race Start: The race will start on Pearse Street (outside 'Just Books') at 10am sharp. The race is chip timed with a chipped start mat - please do not crowd the start as you will get an accurate recorded time for your race regardless of how far back from the start line you are when the gun goes. Your chip time begins when you cross the start mat.

The Route: We have the same flat route as previous years. Starting on Pearse St. then heading out of town towards Delvin, onto the quiet country roads of Curraghmore and The Downs before heading onto the Royal Canal Greenway for the last 7km back into town, finishing in Mullingar Town Park. Link to Garmin Map : https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/76794080.The race leaves the Greenway just after you pass under Saunders Bridge at the Millmount Rail Bridge.

Water Stations: Water stations will be provided at the following locations along the route:

1. Between kilometers 5 & 6

2. Between kilometers 11 & 12

3. At kilometer 17

Pacers: There will be pacers for 1.30 / 1.40 / 1.50 / 2.00 /2.10. Each pacer will be wearing an orange pacer tee-shirt (see image below)and will carry a helium balloon with their times. Please group with the pacers closest to your expected finish time, even if you are not intending to run with them.  For example, if you are expecting to finish in approx. 1hr 45minutes, please position yourself between the 1.40 and 1.50 pacers when we start gathering the crowds before the race start.

Marshalls: We will have race marshals at various points along the route in high-vis - please listen to any instructions they might give you.  They are there to help ensure the safety of all participants. We would strongly discourage the wearing of headphones as, while we will endeavour to limit/divert traffic as best we can, we cannot guarantee a completely traffic-free route, so there may be traffic from time to time.

Bins & Litter: Bins will be provided on the course and at the start & finish areas. Please use them to dispose of your water bottles, gels, etc. The local community, Westmeath County Council and Waterways Ireland are great supporters of the event; we want to repay their generosity with respect - Thank you!

Finish Line: The finish line is located in the Mullingar Town Park.

Tee-shirts, Goody Bag & Medal: Your t-shirts will be in your goody bag which can be collected after you cross the finish line – you will be directed to a large marquee where our volunteers will be handing out goody bags based on t-shirt sizes (note: for hygiene reasons it will not be possible to try on race t-shirts to test for size!). Medals will either be in your goody bag or will be handed out at the finish line.

Refreshments & Race Pack: Water will be handed to you as you cross the finish line. ORS will have rehydration sachets available at the finish area to help with your recovery. Sandwiches and bananas will be available in the marquee after you collect your goody bag. Please remember to dispose of any litter in the big bins provided. There are tea/coffee vendors in the area (on Pearse Street).

Charity: All proceed from our half marathon are going to T.E.A.M. The aim of the service is to provide support for women and their children in every aspect of their lives in the Midlands Area. Residents are provided with assistance to liaise with the relevant authorities and services. T.E.A.M. helps them move out of homelessness, through a period in emergency accommodation, onto housing that is appropriate to their needs. Last year we raised€33,000 and we would like to thank you all for helping us raise much needed funds for them again this year.

Weather: At the risk of tempting the weather gods, the forecast is looking pretty good for Sunday. That said, please do plan for the worst and bring a full change of clothes, towel etc.

Please remember we are a volunteer committee and are not always available by email. The best place to reach us is on our social media channels.

That’s it for now. We wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
